Brief History

1945

Islamic High School (Sekolah Tinggi Islam), the embryo of Universitas Islam Indonesia, was established on July 8, 1945 as the first Islamic higher education institution in Indonesia that aimed to integrate the teaching of religious and general sciences. STI was transformed into a university and renamed as Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII) on 27 Rajab 1367 H or 10 March 1948 with the Faculty of Religion as one of its initial faculties.

1950

The Ministry of Religious Affairs used the Faculty of Religion of UII as the embryo and model for the establishment of State Islamic Institutes (now Islamic State Universities) based on PP No. 34 of 1950.

1961

1961 the Islamic Education Program became a separate faculty at UII named as the Faculty of Tarbiyah alongside the Faculty of Shari’ah. The opening of these two separate faculties was further development and a breakdown of the Faculty of Religion that had been a single faculty since 1950. These two separate faculties continued to exist until 1998.

1997

In 1997, the Faculty of Tarbiyah was merged with the Faculty of Syari’ah to become the Faculty of Islamic Studies. This merger was based on the Decree of the Board of the Waqf Board of the Islamic University of Indonesia Number VI TAP/DP/1997 and came into effect on April 1, 1998.

In terms of management quality, the Undergraduate Program in Islamic Education has received the A Accreditation from the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN PT) since 2010. The program has maintained this status by always making continuous improvement to respond to the increasingly dynamic challenges of the education world.

In terms of its curriculum, the program also always carries out curriculum development, most recently by referring to the Presidential Regulation (Perpres) of the Republic of Indonesia Number 8 of 2012 concerning the Indonesian National Qualifications Framework (KKNI) and Regulation of the Minister of Education and Culture (Permendikbud) RI Number 73 of 2013 concerning Implementation of the Framework Indonesian National Qualifications for Higher Education.
